OMAN – The Ministry of Housing has signed an agreement for allotment of land with Osool Poultry in Al Ghaftain in the wilayat of Haima. The ministry stated that it has agreed to allocate four sites in Haima to establish over RO60mn worth poultry project.

Ahmed bin Ali al Shehri, director general of Housing in Al Wusta governorate was quoted by Oman TV, as saying, “We are seeking to achieve self-sufficiency in table eggs and poultry meat through this project. It will start in 2019 and cost more than RO60mn. Set up in Al Ghaftain area in Haima, it will also include a factory for the production of poultry feed with a capacity of 20 tonnes per hour, in addition to having 144 barns.”

Muscat Daily reports that the project will be implemented on four sites. The first and second sites will be 15mn sq m each, the third site 14.9mn sq m and the fourth 2mn sq m. Mr Shehri stated that poultry projects need large areas that take into account health and environmental conditions and safety standards.

Osool Poultry is expected to ensure smooth supply of breeder eggs to the poultry industry. This project will be a major contributor to the food security of not just the sultanate, but also the GCC. The project aims to add to Oman’s goal in diversifying economic resources.
