UAE – A meat factory that processed frozen chicken into mortadella and sausages was shut down in Ras Al Khaimah after it was found to be repackaging huge amounts of spoiled and expired chicken for sale.
Brig Abdullah Minkhis, director of the Criminal Investigation Department at RAK Police, said the food control department at RAK Municipality received a report that the factory was reselling expired meat after repacking it with new expiry dates.
According to The National, an inspection team found huge amounts of expired processed meat packed in cans and bags, labelled with new expiry dates and ready to be shipped to market.
“All the products were seized by the health inspectors and the Asian men who were in charge of the factory were referred to prosecution,” said Brig Minkhis.
He asked the public to work with the authorities and report any incident that might affect public health and safety.
